I’m happy to say that all of us baseball fans have made it through another off season and it is officially time for Alabama baseball. After a disappointing 21-34(9-21 SEC) finish in 2012, the Tide has its’ eyes set on a fresh start in 2013. The campaign begins Friday night.

The wait is over. Alabama baseball is here.

The wait is over. Alabama baseball is here.

Starting Friday under the lights, the Alabama baseball team will enter a three-game weekend series with the Keydets from the Virginia Military Institute. This will mark the first ever meetings between these two schools’ baseball programs. Don’t let the fact that the VMI baseball program isn’t well known make you think that they will come into Tuscaloosa and roll over. They won’t. The Keydets 16-36 (2-20 Big South) in 2012 make the trip from Lexington, VA, bringing with them a crop of strong, athletic young players. Reed Garrett is the main man in the VMI rotation. The sophomore is certainly Mr. Friday Night for this team and expects to build off of a strong freshman year. Garrett will start Friday against Alabama sophomore Spencer Turnbull

As of now, a lot is up-in-the-air regarding this Crimson Tide team. This years roster includes 20 newcomers, with all but three of them being freshman. Things will start to fall into place as the season progresses but with the weapons that Alabama has in its’ dugout, there is no reason this team can’t be in the race come postseason time.

First pitch tomorrow is set for 6:05 pm but if you’re like me, you’ll show up around noon because I simply can’t wait any longer for baseball to start.
