Dave Hart, the University of Alabama’s executive director of athletics, has been accepted the position of vice chancellor and athletic director at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

Dave Hart was credited with the hiring of current UA basketball coach Anthony Grant.

Hart served as athletic director at Florida State University from 1995 until 2007, when he his contract was not renewed due to an academic scandal that was wide spread throughout the Seminole athletic program. After his stint at FSU came to an end, Mal Moore convinced Hart to come back to his alma mater and serve as executive director of athletics.

In his newly created position at Alabama in 2008, Hart began overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Alabama Athletic Department. Hart was credited with targeting and ultimately hiring now Crimson Tide men’s basketball coach, Anthony Grant.

“(Hart is) a gifted administrator who has done an excellent job for our athletic department and our university,” UA director of athletics Mal Moore said. “I know I speak for all of us in Alabama Athletics in wishing Dave all the best at Tennessee.”

Hart was making slightly under $350,000 annually at Alabama, in comparison former UT athletic director Mike Hamilton made $400,000. According to the Knoxville News Sentinel however, Tennessee is expected to dramatically increase that salary for the new AD.

Moore has not announced if he will hire a new executive director of athletics or take back the responsibilities he assigned to Hart in 2008.
