TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women’s basketball team announced its 2011-12 schedule on Tuesday, which includes 14 games against teams advancing to postseason play in 2011.
In addition to its Southeastern Conference lineup, the Crimson Tide will take on teams from 11 others conferences including the Atlantic Coast Conference, Big 12 Conference, Big East Conference, Big South Conference, Colonial Athletic Conference, Mountain West Conference, Southern Conference, Southland Conference, Southwestern Athletic Conference, Sun Belt Conference and the Western Athletic Conference.
“The coaching staff and the team are really looking forward to getting this season started,” Alabama head coach Wendell Hudson said. “We made a little run in the Postseason WNIT last season that we are looking to build on this year and feel we have prepared a schedule that will allow us to do so.”
Alabama will hold a single exhibition game on Nov. 6, when it takes on Auburn Montgomery. The Tide will then tipoff the regular season on Nov. 12, hosting Nicholls State before hitting the road for the first time when it heads to Central Arkansas on Nov. 15. Alabama will play a pair of home contests against Northwestern State (Nov. 18) and Georgia Southern (Nov. 21) prior to its trip to the Virgin Islands Paradise Jam, where the Tide will face Old Dominion, Seton Hall and Louisiana Tech. The three-day tournament runs from Nov. 24-26.
Following its trip to the Islands, Alabama will take on Southeastern Louisiana (Dec. 2) and Kansas (Dec. 4) at home before a three-game road stretch that includes stops at North Texas (Dec. 7), North Carolina State (Dec. 11) and Alabama State (Dec. 17). The Tide’s final game prior to breaking for the holidays will be its annual Fifth Grade Fast Break game where it will host Presbyterian on Dec. 19.
Alabama returns to action on Dec. 30 in its last non-conference tune-up when it takes on Air Force at home.
The Tide will ring in the New Year in Columbia, S.C., as it is scheduled to open Southeastern Conference play against the Gamecocks on Jan. 1. From there, Alabama returns home to host Auburn on Jan. 5. The Tide will take on LSU in Baton Rouge, La., on Jan. 8 before hosting Mississippi State and Mississippi on Jan. 12 and Jan. 15, respectively. The Tide then travels to Gainesville, Fla., for a showdown with the Gators on Jan. 19. Tennessee will make a trip to Tuscaloosa on Jan. 26, before Alabama closes out the month of January at Kentucky (Jan. 29).
The Tide’s first contest in February will be played at Arkansas (Feb. 2) with the remainder of the month featuring home games against Georgia (Feb. 5), LSU (Feb. 12), Kentucky (Feb. 16) and South Carolina (Feb. 19) and road contests at Mississippi (Feb. 9), Auburn (Feb. 23) and Vanderbilt (Feb. 26).
