No matter what your 2020 plans are, Winona Oak’s new release, ‘Closure,’ is an EP for every occasion. Whether you’re sweating it out at the gym, with friends at a party, riding in the car, or even studying, this is an album that is ALWAYS appropriate. Never having heard a song by Winona Oak, I was nervous but excited to get to know her music and share my thoughts with you all. After all, it did not disappoint.

Whether it’s her unique voice or the meaning behind the songs, these songs are now on repeat for me. (Seriously, I’m listening as we speak.) Known for her collaborations with What So Not and The Chainsmokers, plus her laid-back pop and R&B style sound, Winona Oak is quickly growing her name in the music scene. ‘Closure’ gave me big Noah Cyrus meets Lorde vibes and it is a combo that we didn’t know we needed until we had it. Each song tells a story with a mixture of slow and upbeat sounds, along with her killer voice.

My personal favorite track on ‘Closure’ is Control. The catchy tune and unique style make you want to bop your head and sing along. The meaning behind the lyrics makes it even more worth the listen. Winona dove deeper into this track on Twitter and said, “Control is about meeting someone that makes you weak in your knees and never knowing how they actually feel about you. You make risky decisions, act irrationally and tolerate things you normally wouldn’t. You’re feeling nervous, insecure and are constantly afraid that they are gonna leave you. Oh, and this is when you learn – the difference between love and obsession.” By capturing the pros and cons of falling for someone in this song, Winona became one of the most relatable artists of 2020. I, also, highly recommend watching her music video while you’re at it. She made sure to keep some twisty humor in the mix.

One of the most interesting things I learned about Winona is the exposure she has gained worldwide all by age 25. ‘Closure’ was ranked #16 in Germany, #48 in Poland, and #84 in Fiji. That deserves some applause. Now, America needs to catch up! This EP is not like the ones I have come across lately. Her Swedish voice, youthful appeal, and strong composition all come together to make a song that will hit home – no matter who you are. I went into this review with no expectations, and I am walking away with some good songs and a new favorite artist to boot.

In addition to this absolutely superb EP, you can find remixes of a couple of the tracks from ‘Closure’ on all of Winona’s streaming profiles. So that’s an obvious bonus.
