If you haven’t heard drivers license by Olivia Rodrigo, stop what you’re doing and go listen now – you will not regret it. Rodrigo’s debut took the world by storm in a matter of hours. On Jan. 8th, drivers license was released and reached the top of many notable charts, including the Billboard Hot 100. Rodrigo also broke the record for the highest number of streams in the first week at 107 million streams world-wide. This 17-year-old artist’s massive success is being compared to talents like Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift and even Michael Jackson.

Rodrigo’s drivers license is the kind of song that you never hear anymore. It is a heart wrenching ballad that you can belt at the top of your lungs, whisper and cry to while pretending you’re in a music video (aren’t we all guilty of that?) and even play in the background while studying or multi-tasking. It is a beautiful melody that tells a clear story from start to finish.

Rodrigo is finally getting her driver’s license, but not having the person she loves around to share her excitement and new freedom with as she had previously planned. She has captured the hearts and attention of those who relate to her story, those who love the song in general and those who sympathize with her heartbreak. Described as pop, bedroom pop, and indie pop, you can probably tell that it is a mix of genres that can please just about everyone. Rodrigo’s soft, yet powerful, voice is the perfect balance of beautiful and emotional. She is a natural at telling a story and I look forward to seeing what else she delivers in her upcoming EP.

For some tea! Rodrigo is currently the star of Disney’s new “High School Musical” spin off, “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.” The song is rumored to be written about her past relationship with co-star, Joshua Bassett. This adds even more fun to the song in the pop culture world and for those that live for so-called Tik tok theories and scandals. If you want even more gossip, check out “Lie Lie Lie,” the single that Bassett released on Jan. 14th. I could go on and on about the rumors about these two and their conveniently juxtaposing songs, but I’ll leave all of that for you to have some fun with.

drivers license is available to stream on all major platforms!
