Alabama is preparing for a completely different task in the Arkansas Razorbacks, and the work begins today. Here are some notes and observations from the (brief) practice viewing.

– Starting center Ryan Kelly returned to practice today after missing two weeks with a stretched MCL, according to Nick Saban. Saban did not offer the information in his press conference before practice, but Anthony Steen did. More information on Kelly’s status will hopefully be available on Wednesday in Saban’s next media appearance.

– The power run game Arkansas has adopted under Bret Bielema has Alabama adjusting its practice drills from the previous weeks. Defensive coordinator Kirby Smart had the inside linebackers working on power run schemes, especially out of sets involving a fullback and at least one tight end.

– Another facet of the Arkansas offense is the featuring of two tight end sets in heavy doses. This requires Alabama to keep its base 3-4 set on the field more often than normal, this forcing linebackers to cover tight end in passing plays. Smart had the inside linebackers work on that, as well.
