The Crimson Tide returned to the outdoor practice field on Wednesday to prepare for the Ole Miss Rebels. Here are a few notes and observations, with video of the middle linebackers posted below.

– Today was third down day for the defense, especially the secondary. Lots of emphasis was put on covering route schemes and combinations that would, in theory, leave holes in coverage eight yards or further downfield.

– The middle linebackers were seen working extensively on defending playaction passes from spread formations with a tight end (Ole Miss loves one tight end spread formations). There were also a few reps where the play was a combination read option pass (the quarterback reads the defense presnap and decides if he is going to run the read option or pull it and go for the pass depending on the defensive alignment).
