After five seasons (semesters), a 90.7 specialty show will come to a close at the conclusion of this semester. “Up Beat Up” started in the summer of 2009 as an untitled indie request show that developed into a series dedicated to promoting  lesser-known independent and local artists for the benefit of the community. When asked about the initiative and purpose of the show, Parker White, host of Up Beat Up, replied that “Up Beat Up” “provide(s) a unique listening experience that brings people together through the medium of radio.”

White continues, “In practice, I’ve skewed the show towards an emotional basis – whether you’re having a good day or a bad day, music can reflect that and speak to that and can synthesize an energy around that.”

As the season premier of “Up Beat Up” aired last Monday, White hopes to continue this idea. “My main focus for this season is to just keep doing more of what makes the show unique – playing vinyl records on air, and hosting live guests, such as local music performers.” White has had a variety of local guest on “Up Beat Up” in the past that have included Ham Bagby, We Ain’t Sorry, The Motions, Michael Battito, Kim Gentry, and Callooh! Callay!.

Up Beat Up airs every Monday from 8pm to 10 pm CST only on 90.7 The Capstone. For more details on the “Up Beat Up” be sure to check its Facebook page.
