“Saturdays (Again)”, Avey Tare’s first single from his upcoming album ‘Cows on Hourglass Pond’, uses a mix of acoustic and electronic influences to create a truly dreamlike atmosphere and vibe.

The song begins with a psychedelic guitar and bass synth riff, as the percussion and acoustic guitar fade in. These instruments remain strong throughout the song, as the acoustic guitar provides a strong middle ground of chords. The percussion never expands into a full drum set, but remains low key and constant, serving as a simple beat that one can nod their head to.

The vocals kick in and the lyrics are ripe with colorful and descriptive imagery, as Tare sings about smoking cakes and a fondness for past saturdays. Tare’s voice adds to the dreamlike quality of the song, as he sings in metaphors with reverb added to his vocals. As the vocals kick in, the lead guitar and bass double each other, providing a riff with a low end and high end, giving the song a feeling of fullness as the acoustic guitar continues in the middle of the mix.

Halfway through the song, everything drops out except for the bass synth, guitar, and some spliced vocals. These are all given an intense echo effect, which provides an ethereal interlude to the song. The song returns to normal after about 30 seconds, with a slightly altered lead and bass part.

“Saturdays (Again)” uses its electronic and acoustic influences to craft a unique listening experience. The song creates a trance-like feeling of calm and weightlessness, but still keeps the listener engaged. If this song serves as any indication of the album to come, ‘Cows on Hourglass Pond’ will be a record to look out for when it drops on March 22.

“Saturdays (Again)” is streaming everywhere now.
