Game 3: Alabama 19, UMES 0

Alabama baseball finished off a sweep of Maryland Eastern Shore on Sunday with a 19-0 win in Hoover. The offense once again got started early and never looked back.

Casey Hughston continued his hot hitting, starting with a 2-run triple in the 1st inning. The Tide added six more runs in the third inning behind RBI singles from Kyle Overstreet and Chance Vincent and a two-run double by catcher Will Haynie.

Hughston added another RBI in the fourth on a sacrifice fly but it ended his streak of 10 consecutive plate appearances reaching base.

The sophomore left fielder finished the day 4-4 with 4 runs and 5 RBIs. He finished the series going 11 for 13 at the plate.

Alabama’s offense would add nine more runs throughout the game, including two-run doubles by both Hughston and Overstreet.

Geoffrey Bramblett got the win on the mound. The sophomore threw 6 innings, allowing just 2 hits and striking out 3. Jay Shaw, Mitch Greer and Thomas Burrows all pitched an inning each.

Alabama will travel to Texas on February 20th for a three game series against the University of Houston.

Game 2: Alabama 11, UMES 0

Alabama improved to 2-0 Saturday afternoon with another shutout win against Maryland Eastern Shore. Junior Will Carter got the victory, pitching 7 innings allowing just 2 hits and striking out 6.

The offense got going early, scoring two runs in the first inning off RBI singles by Georgie Salem and Kyle Overstreet. The Tide added four runs in the 4th inning after two hit batters with the bases loaded and a Casey Hughston RBI single. Alabama got three more runs in the 6th and two in the 7th to finish with the 11-0 victory.

Hughston went 4 for 4, scored once and stole two bases. Kyle Overstreet finished the night 2 for 5 with 3 RBIs and scored once.

Game 1: Alabama 6, UMES 0

The Alabama baseball team opened up their 2015 campaign with a 6-0 win against Maryland Eastern Shore at the Hoover Met on Friday night.

Senior Taylor Guilbeau got the win after striking out 7 and allowing just 3 hits in 6 scoreless innings. Guilbeau handed the ball off to junior Ray Castillo, who threw the final three innings while striking out 5 and allowing just 3 base runners.

The Tide’s offense came from the returning stars of Mikey White, Casey Hughston and Georgie Salem. White finished the night 2-3 with a double, a triple and two walks. The other two combined to go 5-9 with 3 runs, 3 RBIs and 2 stolen bases.

Freshman Chandler Avant got the start at third base and lead off for Mitch Gaspard’s squad. Avant finished the night 1-5 but hit the ball hard on four of his plate appearances.

The Tide and Hawks return to the Met tomorrow at 2:00 pm CST for game 2 of the series.
