Civil rights icon and former South African President Nelson Mandela died on Dec. 5, 2013. Capstone News Now reached out to local leaders to get their reactions to his death which came during the same year the University of Alabama celebrated 50 years of desegregation, and had renewed racial tensions exposed in a Crimson White report on the lack of integration in sorority houses.
