HOOVER, Ala. – The first day of Southeastern Conference Media Days wrapped up Wednesday evening at the Wynfrey Hotel in Hoover.  The day featured players and coaches from Arkansas, Florida, Mississippi State and South Carolina meeting with over 1,000 credentialed members of the media.

In his usual fashion, SEC veteran Steve Spurrier provided the highlights of the day with his colorful comments on Commissioner’s Slive proposal for change, the biggest problem with his quarterback being “stupidity” and when asked if any freshmen will contribute to his team this season, responding with “have you ever heard of a guy named Jadeveon Clowney!?!” referring to the number one prospect in the nation.
News around Arkansas, a projected top ten team this preseason, seemed to be surprisingly minimal. While it isn’t surprising Spurrier stole the spotlight, it was strange how much the Razorbacks flew under the radar on Wednesday
The other big new came out of the gate with Commissioner Mike Slive presenting his “agenda for change.” Slive’s four piece proposal which he wants to see implemented on a national level would reassign benefits for student-athletes such as linking Cost of Attendance with scholarships, strengthening academic requirements including raising the minimal GPA from 2.0 to 2.5 for admission, modernizing recruiting rules to include text messaging and facebook and continuing to support the N.C.A.A.’s efforts to improve the enforcement process.
