Notre Dame Student-Athletes “Fight for Tide”

University of Notre Dame administrators and student-athletes are visiting Tuscaloosa this week to help aid in tornado relief efforts. The 24 students and six administrators, who are currently on their university’s fall break, elected to travel to Tuscaloosa to participate in a service trip they call “Fight for Tide.” They will be working in collaboration with Project Team Up, a redevelopment and re-visioning initiative in partnership with Nick’s Kids and Coach Nick and Terry Saban.

Zavadil: Where Bama Stands

Heading into this season there were plenty of questions surrounding the Alabama Crimson Tide as it pertained to the product that would be seen on Saturdays. Through the first 7 weeks of the season most of those questions have been answered in a positive manner. The quarterback situation has been solidified, and Redshirt Sophomore A.J. Football Trounces Ole Miss, 52-7

Alabama running back Trent Richardson rushed for a career-high 183 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Crimson Tide to a convincing 52-7 victory over Ole Miss on Saturday before a crowd of 61,792 at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. With the victory, Alabama improved to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in Southeastern Conference action, while Ole Miss dropped to 2-4 overall, 0-3 in the SEC.

Friday night’s Alabama women’s volleyball match against South Carolina will be the first event of the Athletics department’s third annual “Power of Pink” program, sponsored by Tuscaloosa Toyota. Softball Downs Shelton and Plays NPF Close

The Alabama softball team split an exhibition doubleheader Sunday at Rhoads Stadium, defeating Shelton State, 2-0, and then falling to the National Pro Fastpitch All-Star team, 2-1. The NPF squad featured former Crimson Tide greats Kelsi Dunne, Kelly Kretschman, Kelley Montalvo and Charlotte Morgan.

Football Blanks Vanderbilt, 34-0

Sophomore quarterback AJ McCarron passed for 237 yards and four touchdowns while junior running back Trent Richardson ran for 107 yards on 19 carries and a touchdown as the No. 2 Alabama football team defeated the Vanderbilt Commodores 34-0 on Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The Crimson Tide improves to 6-0 overall (3-0 in the SEC) while Vanderbilt falls to 3-2 and 1-2 versus SEC opponents.

Softball to Host NPF All-Stars on Sunday Live on 90.7

The Alabama softball team will continue fall play when it host the National Pro Fastpitch All-Stars in a weekend that will feature two games for the Crimson Tide. UA will first host Shelton State on Sunday, Oct. 9, at noon and then play the NPF All-Stars at 2 p.m. Both games will be played at Rhoads Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on WVUA 90.7 FM.

Volleyball Rolls Past Alabama A&M in Three Sets

In the final non-conference match of the season, the Alabama volleyball team made short work of the Alabama A&M Bulldogs, winning the match 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-9) at Foster Auditorium on Tuesday night in just over an hour. The Crimson Tide is now 6-0 all-time against the in-state foe.

Bama Gymnasts Distribute Toys and Supplies at University Place Elementary

The Alabama Gymnastics team visited University Place Elementary School Tuesday afternoon to visit as well as distribute school supplies and toys to children affected by April’s devastating tornado. The toys and supplies came from Wildewood School in Ralston, Neb., where Susan Laxton, the mother of former Crimson Tide gymnast Meredith Laxton, teaches kindergarten.
