As I grind through the last two weeks of senior year, almost reaching the finish line to graduation, I’ve been listening to so much music to keep me going. I’d figure I might as well share what songs/albums that I’ve been recently enjoying.
To kick things off, I’ve been listening to Cowboy Carter on repeat. Beyonce was in her bag when she dropped this fantastic album. Known as Act II, after the critically acclaimed Renaissance, Cowboy Carter has been receiving all the praise and love that it deserves. It’s a top tier album with multiple songs that are so good. My favorite song off the album would have to be “BODYGUARD”. This is a song that should be blasted in every car, while you drive down the California coast. It’s got all the right chords, vocals, and melodies to keep you grooving for a long time. Another song that I recommend everyone listen to off the album is “II MOST WANTED”.
This was probably the song that made me the most emotional. It features Miley Cyrus (who I’ve been a fan of for almost 20 years, crazy!!) and it just sounds so beautiful. Both women’s vocals blend so well together to get you feeling all the emotions. Whenever I listen to this song, it makes me think of my friends. Even though we’ll be going our separate ways at the end of graduation, I’ll always be their shotgun rider and their biggest supporter for the rest of our lives. Finally, “LEVIIS JEANS” is another great song that I think a lot of people will enjoy. Featuring Post Malone, the song is meant to vibe along with and feel the love that comes out of it.
The next album that I’ve been enjoying is Deeper Well by Kacey Musgraves. I’ve been a fan of hers since 2019, during the peak of my junior year of high school. This latest album of hers is a successful piece of work that follows her two earlier beautiful albums, Golden Hour and Star-Crossed. I could definitely see myself living in a cottage and baking bread, while listening to this album. It makes me want to run in the fields of wisteria, with my hair down and a flowy dress. Deeper Well reminds me so much of Taylor Swift’s folklore, that’s probably why I love it so much! If I could recommend two songs off this album, I would suggest that everyone should listen to “The Architect” and “Deeper Well”. Those are some of my favorites off the album. They are truly beautifully written.
The third album that I can’t get enough of is Tori by Tori Kelly. I have been a fan of Tori Kelly for the longest time. Middle school me was in awe of the music she constantly put out. This latest album of hers is top tier. It musically has pop and rnb influences intertwined within each song. Kelly really shines in her vocal abilities with this album and reminds me why I love her music so much. The album itself has a late 90s, early 2000s vibes to it that makes it so enjoyable to listen to. With catching tunes that make you want to sing and dance along to. If you want some tunes to listen to off this album, check out “Missin U” (and the rnb version of it), “Cut”, “Alive If I Die”, “Same Girl”, and “Diamonds”. I promise you; this is an album that you want to fully enjoy.
Finally, the last album that I have been obsessed with is Don’t Forget Me by Maggie Rogers. 2019 was a big music year for me, along with discovering Kacey Musgraves, I also discovered Maggie Rogers. Her most popular album, Heard it in a Past Life, is truly one of the best produced albums I’ve ever heard. She does it again with this latest album. Don’t Forget Me has had me listening on Spotify for days. I just can’t stop listening to it. There are different songs that I can just dance along to in my room. Production wise and vocally, it reminds a lot of Haim’s work. The album feels like the sun shining down on my skin, as I’m cruising around in my neighborhood. Must listen to songs include: “Drunk”, “The Kill”, “If Now was Then”, and “So Sick of Dreaming”. This run of songs is so good. When I tell you, that’s all I’ve been listening to for the past two days, I am not joking. I really love those songs, and I think you would too.
To give you all a little sweet treat, I’ll throw in a new song that has been on repeat for me! “Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter is a fun, pop girl song of the summer hit. Put me on a beach, give me a cute outfit and some glowy makeup, and I’ll give you a whole performance of the song. Carpenter has been someone that I have been listening to for a long time, and it’s just amazing to see her growth as an artist. She’s come a long way from her Disney days, and so have I. She has the skill and talent to become the next big pop icon. This latest song just proves that she is a hitmaker who will leave a lasting impression for times to come.
Oh, and if you’re looking for another song to listen to, check out “Forget About Us” by Perri Edwards. Trust me, I think you’ll enjoy it!
That’s it from me for now. I got to get back to crossing the finish line to graduation!!
