“I see it, I like it, I want it, I got it (Yuh)”

If it isn’t Ari, then wrong number! On Thursday night at 11 pm, CST, Ariana Grande dropped her highly anticipated single 7 rings along with a stunning music video. And honestly, if you haven’t heard this song yet, you’re missing out on some premium pop excellence.

This track though highly anticipated was a bit of a surprise to its listeners. Whatever ill-conceived ideas fans had concocted about what 7 rings would be were thrown out the window when listeners pressed play and the infectious beat, which was also in the intro of Grande’s Thank U, Next video, filled speakers and gave a vibe as if this part of the song was the calm before the storm. With this song, Ariana again decided to confirm that she is a powerhouse hit-maker and that more than anything can demonstrate versatility as an artist.

“Breakfast at Tiffany’s and bottles of bubbles

Girls with tattoos who like getting in trouble”

After Ariana sings those first 2 lines its clear that she has sampled and created an upgraded version of My Favorite Things from The Sound of Music. She has ingeniously taken such a memorable song and made it into a confident luxurious anthem filled with BOSS CHICK ENERGY!

This cockiness from Ariana is refreshing; it’s something that isn’t expected from her and feels quite honest. Each line drips with confidence and such surety in herself. It, also, makes the listener think if you were working as hard as Ms. Grande; how has she not bragged about what she has before; I know I would have.

“Been through some bad s***, I should be a sad b****

Who woulda thought it’d turn me to a savage?”

Ariana Grande had one of the hardest years in 2018, but she didn’t let it destroy her. This song seems to represent a “Savage Grande,” (try ordering that at Starbucks) who is ready to take on the world. This song is a huge mood for 2019. It’s about focusing on yourself. It’s about being a boss, being in your bag and focusing on creating something for yourself that makes you happy and, also, helps you get the coin you deserve.

This song as a whole is brilliant; the way the lyrics have this cocky flair and somewhat humorous tone is effortlessly dynamic. The production value, too, should be noted as a huge part of why this song is so good. The song flows so well and has intricate things happening that you don’t even notice at first glance; like Grande’s angelic background vocals and ad-libs that aren’t too loud to overpower the main vocals, but add a little something extra. Her longtime producers TBHits, Tommy Brown, and Social House, Michael Foster and Charles Anderson, did precisely what needed to be done when it came to creating this beautifully produced song. The piece de resistance was the iconic bridge that Ariana Grande does at the end of the song, solidifying her place as the queen of pop and a lyrical savant. 7 rings is a magnificent piece of art by Ariana Grande, and if Ariana keeps this same energy for the rest of her album, titled Thank U, Next, it surely will go down in history as one of the best pop albums ever known.

7 rings is available on all streaming platforms.
