American Hustle has been nominated for 10 Academy Awards: Best Actor (Christian Bale), Best Actress (Amy Adams), Best Supporting Actor (Bradley Cooper), Best Supporting Actress (Jennifer Lawrence), Best Costume Design, Best Film Editing, Best Production Design, Best Original Screenplay, Best Director (David O. Russell) and Best Motion Picture of the Year.

Oscar Chances: Best Actor will go to either Matthew McConaughey or Chiwetel Ejiofor, Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine) will win Best Actress, Jared Leto is a lock for Supporting Actor. The Great Gatsby will likely win Best Costume Design. Gravity will win Best Film Editing, Production Design & Director.

America’s Sweetheart Jennifer Lawrence has a pretty good chance of winning Best Supporting Actress over frontrunner Lupita Nyong’o. Lawrence won Best Supporting Actress at the Golden Globes and the BAFTAs, but I think Nyong’o will end up winning the award. American Hustle might win Best Original Screenplay, but Spike Jonze’s script for Her might pull off an upset.

As far as Best Picture, I’ve already mentioned earlier that (for me) it’s between American Hustle and Gravity. The more reports I read of Academy voters deciding not to watch 12 Years A Slave — reports like this one — the more I’m convinced that 12 Years doesn’t have a shot at Best Picture. (This also increases Jennifer Lawrence’s chances of winning Best Supporting Actress.)

Vegas odds have American Hustle at a distant third behind 12 Years and Gravity. But I think American Hustle will pull off the upset. It’ll win Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay.
