The Department of Theatre and Dance offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in both theatre and dance. With guidance from our professional faculty and the department’s breadth of knowledge, students are well placed to achieve a sustainable future in the entertainment industry and beyond, contributing as skilled artists and global citizens. While the Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Theatre program provides a general education with courses in all areas, the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Theatre degree program offers specialized concentrations in either acting, musical theatre, or design and technical production. The Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Dance program’s greatest strength is the diversity of classes offered: in addition to virtuosic training in ballet, contemporary dance and jazz, students are offered a wide range of professional skills including choreography, dance for the camera, pedagogy, lighting and sound design, and anatomy. Admission to the BA in Dance program and the BFA programs are by audition/interview only. In addition to our academic programs, we have an active production season, producing full-length plays, musicals, and dance concerts. While our productions bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world performance, our department also enriches the cultural landscape of the Tuscaloosa area.
