To the series of sorry spectacles that has been the Jerry Sandusky/Penn State child sexual abuse scandal, we add one of the sorriest yet. To call Tuesday’s preliminary hearing-that-wasn’t a circus would be insulting the actual circus. Under this metaphorical big top, Sandusky’s lawyer all but stood on top of a car with a bullhorn urging everyone to come attend his client’s hearing — including dragging in a set of alleged victims who had to skewer up the courage to testify in open court — and then waived the hearing after they’d all arrived.
