Everyone has one artist that kick started their love for music. Lets see who that person is for WVUAFM’s Digital Media staff!
Childish Gambino
An artist that made me fall in love with music is Childish Gambino. I think the reason is because he was the first artist that gave me an out of body experience. It was the song “That Power” from the album Camp. From the beautiful instrumental to the mini story he tells at the end, it was genuinely one of the most peak first listening experiences ever- especially since I was coming home from a good road trip.

Twenty One Pilots
I became obsessed with Twenty One Pilots in middle school, buying the CDs, following the whole story line of the albums online, and feeling very introspective with lyrics that seem very deep and profound for a 13-year-old. Scaled and Icy, of all albums, was the first release I followed through all of the singles and build-up and stayed up late to hear it come out, and it was through them that I found my first “music friends,” who would go on to be some of the closest friends I would ever make.

Hozier
My first memory of being excited for a new release of an artist was Hozier’s Unreal, Unearth record, and staying up til midnight to watch the video for De Selby Pt. 2 was my first time listening to a release the first moment I could.
-Jake Bennett
Panic! at the Disco
The band that was my first true love was Panic! at the Disco. I vividly remember sitting in my friend's parents' car as they put on a song from A Fever You Can't Sweat Out, and immediately knew I needed to hear more. From the incredibly quick vocal switches between Brendon and Ryan to the theatrical baroque pop-punk identity of the album, I just knew that it was going to change things.

Wallows
Wallows was the first band I went and listened to a full album from. Indie rock appealed to me a lot.
-Aidan Stricklin
The Beatles
The Beatles were the first artist/group I myself got immersed in on my own, so I listened to most of their discography and loved it.
-Brian Mignogna
David Bowie
The first time I understood that music could be a hobby and not just background noise was when I started listening to David Bowie. I bought The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust on vinyl, and listened front to back. It was one of the first albums I had done that for. Bowie introduced me to classic rock which then introduced me to every genre that spawned off from that. He made me truly love and appreciate music.

The Radio!
It's not really an artist, but staying up late and listening to the radio when I was in elementary school made me love music.
