Men’s and women’s basketball both continued to progress through their SEC schedules this week, though not both were successful.

Anthony Grant’s squad (8-8, 2-1) came out with an 80-61 win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Wednesday.

The Tide’s leading scorer was Trevor Releford with a whopping 28 points.

Alabama outrebounded State 33-28, and outscored them in the paint with an average of 52.6 percent, and also from behind the arc with an average of 40.0 percent.

The Bulldogs had three more turnovers than the Tide, but they managed to commit less fouls than the home team. Alabama even committed a technical foul during the matchup.

The Tide will take on the Missouri Tigers in Columbia, tomorrow at 1:00 pm.

Kristy Curry’s women (8-9, 1-3) fell short to the Auburn Tigers on Thursday 39-61.

Shafontaye Myers was the leading scorer for the Tide with 14 points.

Alabama was only 21.7 percent from the paint, while the Tigers were 42.9 percent.

Auburn outrebounded the Tide with an impressive 52 rebounds to the Tide’s 38.

The Tide committed 20 fouls, six more than the Tigers. They also turned the ball over 21 times, compared to Auburn’s 20.

The women will travel to Columbia, South Carolina to take on the Gamecocks on Sunday, January 19.
