The University of Alabama’s Department of Theatre & Dance presents Purgatorio by Ariel Dorfman, September 26 – October 2, 2011, in the Allen Bales Theatre on Stadium Drive in the UA Theatre District. Nightly performances are at 7:30 pm Monday through Saturday with a matinee performance on Sunday at 2 pm. Tickets can be purchased for $10.00 at the Theatre & Dance Box Office in Rowand-Johnson Hall between the hours of 12 pm and 5 pm Monday through Friday, by calling (205) 348-3400 or online at theatre.ua.edu.Based on the mythical story of Jason and Medea, Purgatorio tells the story of the afterlife, where men and women must account for their lives. Facing their truths, a man and a woman must reach a state of forgiveness before they can “move on.” Weaving the horror and hope of humanity together, playwright Ariel Dorfman (Death and the Maiden) puts before us the questions of justice and forgiveness… If we can’t forgive, how do we move on with our lives? And are there crimes for which there can be no forgiveness?
